This restful town is located in the Northwest Province, around 112km from Johannesburg, with easy access to the recently completed N4 highway that links Pretoria and Botswana. Although mining provides most of the employment in the area, Rustenburg is also renowned for its booming tobacco and citrus farming industries.
The Rustenburg area is dotted with a variety of nature reserves and game parks all offering scenic bushveld landscapes and teeming with wildlife. The Pilansberg National Park, sporting the famous Big Five, is located around 30 minutes’ drive outside of Rustenburg.
The Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, located on the outskirts of the town, will be one of the venues for the 2010 Fifa World Cup. This 45 000-seat stadium is set to host four first-round matches and one second-round match.
